Every single moment you are thinking of me! How precious and wonderful to consider that you cherish me constantly in your every thought! O God, your desires toward me are more than the grains of sand on every shore! When I awake each morning, you’re still with me.
Psalm 139:17-18
As I walked along the beach, the endless grains of sand beneath my feet reminded me of the vastness of God’s thoughts toward us. Each grain represents a fragment of His infinite wisdom, love, and purpose for our lives. This metaphor, drawn from Psalm 139, reveals not just the quantity of His thoughts but their immeasurable depth and significance.
Psalm 139 beautifully illustrates that God’s thoughts toward us are not abstract or distant. They are personal, intentional, and specific. Imagine the Creator of the universe thinking about you—not as one among billions but as His unique creation. Every detail of your life matters to Him. From the number of hairs on your head (Luke 12:7) to the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4), His thoughts are tender and deliberate.
Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us: For my thoughts about mercy are not like your thoughts,
and my ways are different from yours. As high as the heavens are above the earth,
so my ways and my thoughts are higher than yours.
We often try to understand God’s plans, but His wisdom surpasses human reasoning. Like grains of sand, His thoughts are infinite and layered with purposes we cannot yet see. Even when life feels uncertain, we can trust that His plans are for our good (Jeremiah 29:11).
The psalmist’s awe stems not just from the number of God’s thoughts but their nature.
His thoughts toward us are rooted in love. Ephesians 3:18-19 urges us to grasp the width, length, height, and depth of Christ’s love—a love so vast it mirrors the countless grains of sand. Every thought God has for us flows from this boundless love.
When life feels overwhelming, take time to reflect on the enormity of God’s care for you. Just as sand cannot be counted, neither can His thoughts of grace, mercy, and provision. Each day, we wake up sustained by His unwavering presence.
Let the imagery of the grains of sand inspire you to trust God’s plan, even when it feels unclear. Rest in the knowledge that His thoughts for you are filled with hope, guidance, and peace.
Next time you feel insignificant or forgotten, remember: the same God who created the stars also thinks of you more often than there are grains of sand on every beach, dune, and desert combined. You are deeply loved and continually on His mind.
